How we work

At Trailride, we believe engineers and CAD designers don't need to be limited by geography (or a huge, workstation-grade laptop).  Perhaps more importantly - companies can benefit from remote work tools to expand their footprint and take advantage of talented engineers and CAD experts, regardless of location.

Using the latest cloud-based tools, we are able to provide high quality CAD and engineering services from anywhere there's an Internet connection - to clients across the country and across the globe.

Our #1 priority is communication.  We use email sparingly, instead using the collaboration capabilities built in to Onshape and Google to get things done and keep everyone on the same page.  Using Onshape, we can even branch a design and explore different concepts - all without ever creating an additional CAD document.  Below are examples of efficient, simple collaboration that keep things moving forward without delay:

Relying heavily on the built-in collaboration and comment features of Onshape and Google docs, we rarely need to send an email or make a phone call.  Project management is all done with simple, easy-to-use, cloud-based tools.  This frees us up to get work done from anywhere, whether we are sitting at our desk or not...and allows us to keep all team members 100% in the loop of what's going on at all times.
What about needing to touch physical parts?
As mechanical engineers, our main focus is, of course, physical parts - gears, sheet metal assemblies, machined parts...things you can hold in your hand.  For the most part, unless we need to physically be onsite for assembly, 95% of our work can be done remotely with great success.  Alot of this stems from our background and hands-on experience.  Though a complicated design is rarely perfect on the first shot, we draw on our real-world expertise to design things that go together properly.  Some of the things we have to constantly consider:

                                                                                                Can that fastener be accessed?
Is there enough tolerance that the parts will go together?
Is there proper wrench clearance for assembly?

All of this generally leads to a great experience with having a remote design team.  Sometimes, however, we just need to get our hands on a part...whether it be to measure for reverse engineering, design around an existing component, or generate 3D models of physical parts.  For those cases, we recommend simply shipping us the parts if they aren't too large.

Of course, there is always the option to jump on a plane for an in-person visit!  Since we can quite literally carry the entire business with us, we can be up and running in as long as it takes to connect to your WiFi.
